Frequently Asked Questions

How old must I be to volunteer?

You must be 18 years of age to apply for the team. All potential team members will submit to background checks and complete required documents.

Do I have to be active to get the training?

We follow the CERT training as designed by FEMA. All citizens are welcome to take the 24-hour course. This training helps to benefit our community. If you choose to be an active member of the team there are additional FEMA Independent (online) Studies to complete.

Is this a paid position?

No. We are entirely volunteer based. Your level of training and participation depend upon you. We understand that work and family come first!

How am I deployed for an emergency?

Depending on the emergency situation Police, Fire, or Police and Fire will be dispatched. CenTex DART participates in Mutual Aid Agreements with agencies throughout the area. In the event of a major incident, we can be called on for assistance. Team members do not self deploy. A call-down roster will begin from the Program Manager and/or the Director.

Do we deploy out of state?

As we have mutual aid partnerships with like-minded organizations that cross state boundaries we may be called to assist. If deployed out of state please ensure your family, finances, and work related concerns are taken care of during this time. Shelter, power, and water are not guaranteed so preparation for harsh conditions is necessary.
